Scope and Limits

Replace existing waist-level glass barrier located on the second floor mezzanine, with a glass barrier wall of adequate height and shielding resistance to comply with the current standards for multi-layered security management strategies.

Background

Dallas Love Field security management, in partnership with federal and local law enforcement, conducted a security assessment, and a design basis threat was reported with the existing tampered glass height at Love Landing within the airport.  A barrier wall of increased height is recommended to be installed, blocking unhindered views overlooking the passenger security screening area.

Safety

This project is critical to ensure facilities are safe for its occupants, in good condition, and comply with current standards for transportation security. The project adds a layer of safety and security to the second floor viewing platform.

Regulatory Requirement

City of Dallas Administrative Direct AD 4-5, and the City Charter; DAL Master Plan.

Purpose

The project will improve the airport's multi-layered security management strategies and aid in effective emergency preparation to reduce the impact during security events.

Improvements

The installation of a tampered glass barrier wall of increased height has integrative value to existing passive security management systems at the airport. 

Impact

There will be a minor disruption in the pedestrian travel path at Love Landing.
