Dawn, 2014: Dawn portrays a female figure symbolizing Nature, praising the fertile Texas land as an enticement for future settlement of Dallas. A graceful egret in flight, a species that is indigenous to the region, stands behind her.
The Settler, 2012: These low relief bronze medallions depict scenes from the history of Dallas in the Ticketing/Check-in Area. Characteristic of David Newton's work, the combination of symbolic attributes with elegant figures tell stories about Dallas past and present. Artist David Newton about the Settler medallion,"This work symbolizes the hard work under the hot Texas sun that was necessary for the development and success of Dallas."
Cultural Dallas, 2014: Cultural Dallas shows the various forms of art, artists and their respective venues in Dallas. A few of the recognizable artists and venues are: Stevie Ray Vaughn, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Octavio Medellin and the Latino Cultural Center.
Modern Dallas, 2014: A scientist/engineer stands proudly, holding a microchip in one hand and a double helix in the other. Symbolic of Dallas’ reputation and standing in the high-tech industry and medical fields. The figure is backed by the Dallas skyline featuring the light rail and the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge.
About the Artist: David Newton received his Master of Fine Arts from The New York Academy of Art. His work can also be seen in Dallas at Freedman's Memorial Cemetery and Fair Park.
