LINE DANCE, 2014

Artist: Tim Prentice & David Colbert

Location: Baggage Claim

Description: Thirteen ribbons of kinetic mirror-finished aluminum (measuring 12 x 12 x 144 inches) hang beneath the wooden beams of the newly constructed baggage claim area. These ribbons are free to rotate 360 degrees as they reflect the movement of the baggage on the carousel and passengers below.

About the Artist:

Tim Prentice, kinetic sculptor, received a Masters Degree in architecture from Yale in 1960 and founded the award-winning firm of Prentice and Chan in 1965. Ten years later, he established a studio in Cornwall, Connecticut to design and fabricate kinetic sculpture.

David Colbert is the new partner in the recently formed Prentice Colbert, Inc. David brings many years of experience in all aspects of public art, both as Tim’s longtime associate and as a sculptor in his own right.

Recent Prentice Colbert projects include kinetic works at: Stanford Law School, Stanford, CA; The University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City, IA; NYU Langone Medical Center, New York, NY; Union Depot, St. Paul, MN; Convexity Capital Management, Boston, MA. Artists Dave Colbert and Tim Prentice create kinetic sculpture in the tradition of Alexander Calder and George Rickey, but with its own unique form, character and grace.
