LUMINARIA, 2013

Artists: Diana Goldberg & Julie Cohn

Location: Entrance

Description: Luminaria reflects, metaphorically and physically, an illumination of ideas, the strong innovative spirit of the Dallas region, and a warm and welcoming presence at the entrance to Dallas Love Field. Inspired by the vast amount of visually engaging technological information in aeronautics, each Luminaria is laser cut with a pattern representing an idea that has allowed man to take to the skies:

  1. Computer chips: Information technology allowing technological processes to work together and communicate
  2. Weather and mapping: Information required for flight to successfully occur
  3. Routing systems: Unseen roads in the sky ensuring safe flight
  4. Thermodynamics: Scientific principles defining the relationship between heat and energy used in jet propulsion engines
  5. Bernoulli curve: Structures creating lift and drag and the wake turbulence created by the passage of aircraft through air
  6. Quantum mechanics: The basis of modern physics that explains the behavior of matter and energy on the subatomic levelLuminaria
